New Fire Door Regulations 2023

The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 were placed on the statute book on 18 May 2022, and came into force on 23 January 2023. The regulations implement the majority of those recommendations made to the government in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 1 report which require a change in the law.

Responsible Persons, including both building owners (for example freeholders) and other persons having control of the premises (for example managing agents) were required to comply with the regulations from 23 January 2023. Any breach of the regulations is a criminal offence if the breach places one or more relevant persons (for example residents, staff or visitors) at risk of death or serious injury in the event of fire.

How often should my fire doors be inspected?

The Institues of Fire Engineers recommends fire doors should be inspected every 6 months but maybe required to be more frequent dependant on building use and how much the doors are used.

A competent & qualified fire door inspector should always be sought to carry out your fire door survey.

Fire door survey all your fire doors to ensure you are complying with BS:8214

Our fire door surveys include a wide range of inspections inc the following: ·    Ensure it is the correct rated door for its location through the fire door certification ·    Ensure any damage present does not effect its performance in the event of a fire ·    Ensure the door has the correct hardware fitted inc self-closers & hinges ·    Ensure the correct types if intumescent strips are fitted where necessary ·    Ensure any gaps are not over the permitted widths  ·    Ensure where fitted that any glazing is fitted correctly and the correct rating. There is much more to the overall fire door inspection than what is listed here but it is to give you an idea of what we will be looking at during a fire door survey by a qualified fire door inspector.
